Bandwagon #1
This entry is inspired by a writing prompt community I found on Twitter. Like the many other things I do in my life, I have joined the bandwagon and I'm eager to see where it takes me.
There aren’t quite a lot of words one can use to describe Bolu. With other people, the words ‘jovial’, ‘pretty’, ‘smart’, are often used. But in her own case, you would think again and again, wondering what word was suitable to describe her being. With her long neck, tiny eyes and odd walking steps, you looked at her as one would look at a newly discovered creature at the bottom of the sea. At the end of the day, you would settle for ‘odd’. It was an honest, brief and simple description. Much like the effect she had on people.
Bolu was not unaware of this. She too struggled to explain herself, to herself. The effects of puberty still gnawing at her, you could see her struggle to settle in to her own being. It was obvious from the way she carried her herself - like this body that she was in did not belong to her. It was all too clear, this confusion that she had. From the slouch, to the quick glances she gave like she was avoiding being seen, to the shrill voice she spoke with, it was clear. And you too perceive this confusion but you do not know how to handle it. You wonder if your own confusion with yourself was as clear as hers. You wonder if people are also transfixed by the oddity of your being or they have found a term like ‘pretty’, ‘jovial’ or ‘smart’ to describe you.
